Two third-period goals from Vladimir Tarasenko lifted the St. Louis Blues to a 4-1 win over the rival Chicago Blackhawks in the 2017 NHL Winter Classic from Busch Stadium, home of the St. Louis Cardinals.  

Tarasenko's heroics broke a 1-1 deadlock, headlined a three-goal final period and added an outdoor chapter to one of the fiercest rivalries in NHL history.

The weather conditions aren't ideal, but the 2017 Winter Classic between the Chicago Blackhawks and the St. Louis Blues will go ahead as scheduled at Busch Stadium in St. Louis on Monday.

Light rain is in the forecast for the opening puck drop at 1 p.m. ET, but the the skies are expected to clear as the afternoon wears on. According to NHL.com, league officials announced contingency plans if the rain becomes too heavy and a postponement becomes necessary.

Entering 2017, several NHL teams are in need of improvement. Potential playoff contenders, such as the Dallas Stars and Tampa Bay Lightning, find themselves outside the postseason bracket.

Auston Matthews was the overtime hero as the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Detroit Red Wings 5-4 in front of over 40,000 fans at Toronto's BMO Field in the 2017 Centennial Classic.

The outdoor game, a celebration of the NHL's 100th anniversary, started slowly, with just one goal through the first two periods. The dam broke in the third, with the Leafs building a 4-1 lead before the Red Wings fought back to tie, scoring two goals in the last 1:46 of regulation with goaltender Jared Coreau on the bench for the extra attacker.

P.K. Subban Injury: Predators D Placed on IR with Injured Upper Body

The Nashville Predators placed defenseman P.K. Subban on injured reserve Sunday with an upper-body injury, according to Brooks Bratten of the team's official website. 

Doctors will re-evaluate Subban in two to three weeks to determine when he might get back on the ice.

Following a poor showing Thursday night, goalie Jaroslav Halak was waived by the New York Islanders Friday.

The team announced the move on its official Twitter account.

The 31-year-old veteran was in the midst of his third season with the Isles.
