There's a new trend in the NHL these days. Captains seem to be getting younger and younger.

In 2007, Sidney Crosby was named captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins at the age of 19, becoming the youngest captain in NHL history.

Two years later, it was Jonathan Toews of the Chicago Blackhawks, who at 20 became the third-youngest captain in NHL history.

The next year, Alexander Ovechkin at 24 became the second-youngest captain in Washington Capitals history.

As the NHL season begins for Phoenix forward Kyle Turris, he may be labeled as “an everyday man.”

That’s because coach Dave Tippett likes to use players both in a role and a defined capacity. After nearly a two-month holdout, Turris was back on the ice for the Coyotes Dec. 1 for a game at Winnipeg. Going forward, he will likely serve in various roles.

The Phoenix Coyotes played their first home preseason game Wednesday night to an expectedly sparse crowd of around 5,000.
