Toronto Maple Leafs Talk Tomas Kaberle Trade With The Boston Bruins: Be The GM

Rumor has it that Kaberle will only lift his no-trade clause to the Boston Bruins.

It’s no secret that Toronto and Boston’s GM & Assistant GM were in talks during Tuesday nights game between the Leafs & the Bruins.

Speculation is rampant as to what the trade would bring Toronto if such a scenario would happen.

What we can say with absolute confidence is that Toronto is not—I repeat NOT—getting their own first round pick back. It’s potentially a very valuable pick, thanks to the fantastically rotten play of the Leafs this season.

This, of course, is all a moot point if Kaberle refuses to waive his NTC.

Worth noting, however, is that there’s a rumor out there that states Kaberle wants a contract extension with Boston in place before he’ll waive a trade.

Let’s assume this is the case—making Kaberle a more valuable trade for Boston.

Here, I present some Boston players who could be coming back, along with maybe some picks.

Lets start with the picks:

Boston’s 2011 first round pick: Possibly anywhere from 18th to 30th overall.

Minnesota’s second round pick owned by Boston.

Phoenix’s third round pick owned by Boston.

Here are some Boston prospects:

Joe Colborne: 16th overall pick in 2008. Big talented playmaking center with potential centering a No. 1 line.

Zach Hamill: Eighth overall pick in 2007. Smallish, but fast center. Plays a physical game full of hustle.

Colby Cohen: 45th overall pick in 2007. Another offensive defenseman Burke could add to our defensive prospects; big kid too, at 6’3" and 215 pounds.

Jordan Caron: 25th overall pick in 2009. Power forward potential who can battle hard and score goals.

Skating is a concern as it’s been called “average,” but that’s typical of a “power forward.”

Here are some Boston roster players:

Michael Ryder: 30 years old, on pace for 23 goals. Makes $4 million this year and is UFA next year.

Blake Wheeler: 24 years old, on pace for 35 points. Was a fifth overall in 2004, but is not living up to his potential. Makes $2.2 million this year and is a RFA next year.

Johnny Boychuck: 27 years old, steady, stay-at-home defenseman. Makes $1.9 million until 2011/12.

Steven Kampfer: 22 years old, stay-at-home defenseman. Rumor has it Burke likes this Ann Arbor, MI native.

Not too big though at 5’10", 188 pounds. Making $852,500 until 2012/13.

Mark Stuart: 26 years old, stay-at-home defenseman. Making $1.7 million until next year, when he becomes UFA.

Andrew Ference: 31 years old, steady 4/5 defenseman. Makes $2.25 million until 2012/13.

Tyler Seguin: Just kidding.
