Phiadelphia Flyers Trade Rumors: Is John Madden Philadelphia Bound?

As we move closer and closer to the February 28 trade deadline, one has to wonder: What ARE the Flyers going to do? When are they going to pull the trigger on a trade?

For whatever reason, there are many out there who think Jarome Iginla will still somehow be wearing Orange and Black, but it just doesn't make sense.

The Flyers would have to give up an incredible amount for that sort of return, and players like JvR and Zherdev would almost certainly be gone.

Would it be worth it to blow the roster up to fit him under? I'm not so sure.

On a more reasonable note, there has been speculation that the Flyers are interested in Minnesota forward John Madden.

Madden spent nine years with the New Jersey Devils, before signing as a free agent with the Chicago Blackhawks last year, of whom he won the Stanley Cup with.

Becoming a free agent again, Madden signed a one year deal with Minnesota.

Chances are, Madden won't be signing an extension with Minnesota and since his contract is up in a few short months, this could make him potential trade bait.

The Flyers could really use somebody like Madden.

He's a great penalty killer, has the ability to score shorthanded goals and his two-way play is unmatched. These are all things that Philadelphia needs if they ever want to get their power play to become the weapon it once was.

Madden's cap hit is $1,250,000, so it wouldn't really take a heck of a lot of moving around to acquire him. A straight up Matt Walker for John Madden trade would do the trick, and still leave Philly with some wiggle room. Although a trade like that is unlikely, it goes to show that if the Flyers wanted him, they could most certainly have him.

Although Madden may not be the "blockbuster" trade everybody keeps talking about, he would almost certainly help the Flyers on their struggling power play, and make them an even more dangerous team.

Heck, the guy won a Stanley Cup last year, it's not like he's a washed up player.

I'm all for the trade, but only time will tell.
