On Friday, Feb. 4, two things happened to Evgeni Malkin.
After missing five games, Geno made his return to the Pens lineup against the Buffalo Sabres. Malkin was eager to put the team on his shoulders until the return of Sidney Crosby.
But just after six minutes of ice time, Malkin went down to yet another injury. This time more serious than the last.
It turned out to be a torn ACL and after brief discussion with Pens coach Dan Bylsma, they team isn't expected to have their star center back this season.
So now with both Pens stars out, Malkin long term and Crosby due back hopefully soon, where do the Pens go from here?
After the team has looked solid in the absence of Malkin and Crosby, they have been victories over some of the lesser skilled teams in the NHL.
Sunday's match against the rival Capitals proved that maybe more is needed if the team looks to get over the hump and succeed in the long run with out Malkin.
The following is a slide show featuring the 10 players most impacted by the loss of Evgeni Malkin.
