NHL Trade News: Tampa Bay Lightning Trade Pavel Kubina to Philadelphia Flyers
Posted 02/18/2012 - 19:31 by HockeyPolls
Reports indicate that Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Pavel Kubina has been traded to the Philadelphia Flyers for second and fourth round draft picks.
The move marks the second time that the Flyers have traded for a defenseman; they recently struck a deal with the Dallas Stars to land Swedish defensman Nicklas Grossman.
GM Paul Holmgren has provided Philadelphia with the depth at the blue line he feels is necessary for a return to the Stanley Cup Finals.
After the Kubina trade, the Philadelphia defense is projected to look like this:
Kimmo Timonen - Braydon Coburn
Matt Carle - Andrej Meszaros
Pavel Kubina - Nicklas Grossman
Kubina brings an extra offensive punch that the Flyers so desperately need with the absence of their star defenseman and captain, Chris Pronger.
