NHL Injuries: Is Marc Savard's Season-Ender a Sign of Bad Things to Come?

Marc Savard took a nasty hit by none other than the low-class punching bag we all know as Matt Cooke last March, forcing him to miss significant time last season that lasted all the way into much of this season.
Savard was suffering from post-concussion symptoms that left him unable to play.
The Boston Bruins got some good news in December, as it seemed that Marc Savard was healthy enough to play. Shortly after, Savard returned to the lineup, but only after the Bruins made a tough trade, sending Marco Sturm on his way to the L.A. Kings in order to fit Savard back in the lineup.
If the Bruins knew what was to unfold, they probably never would have made that trade.
On January 22, Marc suffered another concussion against the Colorado Avalanche, forcing him back out of the lineup once again. It was a tough loss for Boston, but an even tougher loss to Marc Savard and his family.
Since then, Boston has announced that Marc Savard will be out for the remainder of the season, which is a real shame. Marc is one hell of a player, and I'm sure he'd love to be on the ice right now instead of recovering. Marc has already missed substantial time within the past few years, and this has got to be a real killer for him and his team.
This is why headshots have become such a hot topic in the NHL, especially this year.
Players continue to fall to concussions, and I'm sure just about everybody has heard all about Sidney Crosby and the drama that surrounds the Pittsburgh Penguins by now.
Personally, I don't think that all these concussions are some sort of "sign." It's hockey—these things have happened since the sport was founded. It happens more frequently now because the level of play has intensified. Regardless, there isn't much more the league can do to eliminate headshots, but we won't delve too far into that, since I already wrote an article on that a few days ago.
Boston seems to be doing just fine without Savard in the lineup, and even though they traded away Marco Sturm, they still have plenty of talent up front and all around, really.
The Bruins have been in the rumor mill for a while now, and they have recently acquired Chris Kelly from the Ottawa Senators for a second-round draft pick.
I think the Bruins will be just fine and give some teams a run for their money in the playoffs. The Bruins have always been a tough team, and I don't see it changing anytime soon.
I don't think there are any "bad things" that could happen, but one never knows.
