Colorado Avalanche: Tomas Fleischmann Practices; Will He Be Re-Signed?

Forward Tomas Fleischmann practiced with the Colorado Avalanche Tuesday, more than two months after being diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism in his lungs. The 26-year-old Czechoslovakia native last played January 18 in a 4-1 win against the Vancouver Canucks.

Fleischmann will sit out the rest of the season for precautionary reasons, and will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

The question is: will the Avalanche try to re-sign him?

Oft-injured superstar Peter Forsberg may make a surprise return to the NHL with his old team the Colorado Avalanche. 

Less than a month ago, the 37-year old abandoned a comeback attempt with MODO of the Swedish Elite League, leaving the team the following message, “There will be no comeback.  The foot is not for games.”

The last three minutes of the Avalanche's 7-5 win over Chicago gave insight into the difference in the quality of play they've gotten from recent acquisitions Thomas Fleischmann and Matt Hunwick.

It was Fleischmann who, with the Avalanche down 5-4 at the 17:36 mark of the third period, scored the game-tying goal before setting up Matt Duchene for the game-winner exactly one minute later.

NHL Colorado Avalanche Trade Scott Hannan To Washington Capitals

In their second trade in as many days, the Colorado Avalanche have traded defenseman Scott Hannan to the Washington Capitals in exchange for forward Thomas Fleischmann.

The Avalanche's acquisition of Matt Hunwick gave them nine NHL defenseman, so it's not a surprise they traded one for a forward.

It's also not a surprise that the defenseman to go was Scott Hannan.

The rumours became a reality this morning as the Washington Capitals traded Tomas Fleischmann to the Colorado Avalanche for Scott Hannan. This deal should help both teams in the short run.

Fleischmann is a player that is struggling this year, scoring only four goals and 10 points in 23 games this year. He is expected to score 20 goals per year. He is a solid forward who can play on the top six.
