The New York Islanders announced they relieved Jack Capuano of his head coaching duties on Tuesday. 

Assistant general manager Doug Weight will serve as the team's interim head coach.

Tyler Parsons saved all five shot attempts he faced in the shootout to help the United States bring home the gold medal at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship in dramatic fashion Thursday.

The United States overcame two different two-goal deficits to force overtime against Canada in Montreal, which wasn't enough to break the 4-4 tie. In a five-round shootout, Troy Terry scored the only goal, and Parsons took care of the rest in what went down as a 5-4 win for the U.S.

The Washington Capitals put history on hold Thursday at the Verizon Center. 

Washington ended the Columbus Blue Jackets' 16-game winning streak with a commanding 5-0 victory and prevented the visitors from tying the 1992-93 Pittsburgh Penguins' NHL record of 17 consecutive wins. It was also a notable effort for the Capitals because they are chasing the Blue Jackets in the Metropolitan Division.

Two third-period goals from Vladimir Tarasenko lifted the St. Louis Blues to a 4-1 win over the rival Chicago Blackhawks in the 2017 NHL Winter Classic from Busch Stadium, home of the St. Louis Cardinals.  

Tarasenko's heroics broke a 1-1 deadlock, headlined a three-goal final period and added an outdoor chapter to one of the fiercest rivalries in NHL history.

Preliminary action at the 2017 World Junior Championship continued Friday with a pair of clashes, and the action certainly didn't lack for drama. 

The evening's first showdown featured a high-scoring showdown between Denmark and Switzerland in Montreal, while the second clash saw Latvia and Slovakia duke it out following slow starts to the tournament.

The 2017 World Junior Hockey Championship entered in to its third day on Wednesday, with two games on the docket north of the border. 

Fans in attendance were treated to plenty of scoring Tuesday. The Czech Republic and Switzerland combined for seven goals, while Russia dropped nine goals on Latvia. Host Canada also pitched a 5-0 shutout of Slovakia.
