NHL Buzz: Saturday, July 10th

There is a lot of talk around the NHL right now; here is the latest.

According to the NY Post, the New Jersey Devils have offered Ilya Kovalchuk a 17 year contract extension worth over $100 million. The offer is believed to pay him $100 million in the first 10 years and then drop down to 1-2 million in the final 7.

Since the LA Kings are now out of the Kovalchuk frenzy they are looking elsewhere to add a LW. Rumor has it they are interested in Simon Gagne.

If a team is still looking for a right wing this off-season, they're going to have to look from the very top of the list "right" down to the very bottom in hopes of finding one on the free agent market.

Bad puns aside, that could very well be true. From the very start of NHL free agency this summer, which opened July 1st, the pool of UFA right wings has been very, very shallow.

After another lackluster performance like the one on Thursday night against the Chicago Blackhawks—losing 5-2—Satan was one of the few bright spots for Boston by netting his first goal of the 2009-10 season, and his first dressed in Black and Gold.

“It was a perfect pass...I knew I had enough time to turn around and take a shot.” Satan said in the locker room following the game.

Somewhat lost in the majesty and beauty of the Winter Classic at Fenway Park over New Year’s weekend was the first in what could be many attempts by the Bruins to revamp their offense heading into the final stretch of the season.

The B’s sent a flier out on 35-year old winger Miroslav Satan, who has been inactive this season after winning a Stanley Cup with the Penguins last year.

Miroslav Satan: Waiting to Rejoin the Rookery

Albeit not the season that anyone would have anticipated, Miroslav Satan could still fulfill the job that the Pittsburgh Penguins had in mind when he was signed last summer.  That mission: Put the puck in the net in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
