Montreal Canadiens: The Happy Halloween Horror Edition

In the spirit of Halloween, I thought I’d point out a few things that are scaring me about my favorite hockey team right now.

The Second Line

For an entirely capable centerman, Scott Gomez is just playing some truly poor hockey right now. He’s missing passes to his wingers, constantly powering through to the offensive zone and then turning over the puck, parking himself behind the net instead of in front of it, and making poor decisions time and again.

NHL Free Agents 2010: Five UFAs Who Can Push Your Team To The Cup For Cheap

NHL Free Agents 2010: The NHL has become a very turbulent atmosphere for unrestricted free agents this past summer. While some players—such as Ilya Kovalchuk— have signed huge long-term deals, others—such as veteran Bill Guerin—have been left out in the cold.

In an offseason where teams were content to let players walk away over thousands of dollars, being a free agent was a curse. When the Stanley Cup champions let their goaltender leave over less than $500,000, things didn't look good for the rest of the UFA crop.

Switching It Up: 10 NHL Players That Chould Change Position

Over the years, many NHL players have been asked to switch positions for the better of the team. In most cases, the move typically involves a forward moving from centre to wing or vice versa.

The bigger move is to ask a defenseman to move to forward, which has also had it’s fair share of success stories, including the Chicago Blackhawks electing to go with Dustin Byfuglien (a defenseman by nature) along the boards and in front of the net, which paid huge dividends for the Hawks, especially in the playoffs where Byfuglien was a constant irritation for opposing goaltenders.

Montreal Canadiens Regroup and Hit Back at Flyers: The Script for Game Three

There is nothing like home, sweet home.

The Montreal Canadiens beat the Philadelphia Flyers 5-1 in game three of the Eastern Conference Final. The Flyers now lead the series 2-1 going into game four, Saturday afternoon at the Bell Centre.

Montreal’s offensive drought against goalie Michael Leighton came to an end while Jaroslav Halak bounced back after a shaky performance in the first two games.

Flyers Blank Habs Again: The Script for Game Two

Two games are on the books and one finger on the panic button.

The Philadelphia Flyers beat the Montreal Canadiens 3-0 in game two of the Eastern Conference final and now travel to Montreal with a 2-0 lead to face the Habs Thursday night at the Bell Centre.

The Habs looked better than they did in game one, putting more pressure on Michael Leighton’s net, but still haven’t scored their first goal of the series. On the other hand, Philly has put in nine unanswered goals.

2010 NHL Playoffs: Eastern Conference Finals Preview & Prediction

While the Western Conference Finals sees the top two seeds square off to determine a Stanley Cup Finalist, the Eastern Conference has provided quite a twist this postseason.

The seventh-seeded Philadelphia Flyers and the eighth-seeded Montreal Canadiens. two very unlikely picks to get this far, are set to do battle for the right to represent the East in the Cup Final.

The Montreal Canadiens have turned their city upside down, as the club tries to get back to the Finals since winning it all in 1993.

Marc-Andre Bergeron Evoking Memories of Mark Streit in Montreal

Posted 12/23/2009 - 16:37 by HockeyPolls

In 2007-08, the Montreal Canadiens had the best power play in the National Hockey League, due in large part to some of the best offensive defensemen in the game today, namely Andrei Markov and Mark Streit.

Both blueliners possess booming shots from the point and excellent on-ice vision, two attributes that are vital on the power play.

While Markov was an anchor in the Canadiens' back end alongside Mike Komisarek, Streit was constantly shifted from forward to defensemen in his tenure in Montreal, due in large part to both his offensive abilities and a crowded blueline.

Carey Price Saves Montreal Canadiens from a Catastrophe

The Montreal Canadiens were in Nashville, Tennessee, to face the Predators on Saturday night. The Canadiens played one of the worse game of this decade allowing Nashville to fire 55 times on the net defended by goaltender Carey Price.

Price was fantastic in this game as he managed to stop 53 of those 55 shots in this 2-0 loss. I sincerely hope that all the doubts about Carey Price's talent vanished with this performance. As I stated in an article after an humiliating loss in Vancouver: Carey Price is not the problem.

Montreal's Carey Price Ends His Losing Streak Against the Boston Bruins

Despite a sixth consecutive loss against the Atlanta Trashers on Tuesday evening, the Montreal Canadiens sent Carey Price in net Thursday for their game with the Boston Bruins.

The Habs' goaltender was sharp and stopped 42 of the 43 shots he faced, helping the Canadiens in that 2-1 victory acquired at the shootout session. A victory that will feel like a breath of fresh air for Price.

Mike Cammalleri was the only player from both teams able to beat the goaltender in that shootout session. Tim Thomas was fooled by a good wrist shot from Cammalleri.
