The 10 Most Inspirational NHL Stories of All Time

From a cheap shot hit that turned into a tear-jerking moment, to the overcoming of great physical maladies, with many other moments in between, the NHL has had its share of stories that capture the best of the human spirit.

Here are ten of those. They're ranked in some semblance of order, but 100 different people might have these listed in 100 different ways.

The point? They're all great moments, no matter how you "rank" them.

Top 10 All-Time Calgary Flames Playoff Performers

Posted 03/23/2010 - 19:12 by HockeyPolls

As the Calgary Flames keep pushing to make the playoffs down the stretch, I thought it be a good time to take a look back at some great individual performances over the years come postseason play.

While Calgary has been decent in their past 11 games, going 7-4, it is going to take a little luck for them to earn the last playoff spot in the Western Conference, namely having the Nashville Predators or Detroit Red Wings lose on a consistent basis.

If the Flames do get in, they will be dangerous, as their having to play important games a lot sooner than some of the top teams in the West, who hav

Top 10 All Time Flames Centres

Ironic of sorts. At a time I work on this slideshow, one thing the Flames could use is an elite centre. This season a lot of centres have had a shot at centering the top line with Jarome Iginla. A lot of centres have failed at centering the top line with Jarome Iginla. Currently it's Matt Stajan, but right now the Flames could use any of the guys on this list—or any of the guys on this list, in their prime.

I did quite a lot of research to make this list—and in this research I saw a theme emerging as I researched guys higher up on the list.

Lions, Tigers, & Bears; Oh My! Ranking Each NHL Team's Mascots

As the famous Dorothy once said in the popular 1930's film, the Wizard of Oz, "Lions, bears, and tigers? Oh my!"

It's a good thing she isn't around today, and if any of you feel an emotional connection to her, you should probably stop reading this slideshow right now. That warning comes in effect because the lighter side of NHL hockey is still pretty vicious...that is, if cartoon bears, stuffed fireflies, and fluffy cotton St.

San Jose Sharks' All-Time Squad

San Jose has been home to some of the greatest players to lace up the skates in the past two decades.

And despite the fact the Sharks have yet to win a Stanley Cup in their history, they have formed some of the deepest squads in history.

Now with the Olympics under way and no more Sharks hockey to talk about until March, why not put together an all-time Sharks team?

12 forwards, six defenseman and two goalies. Off all the players ever to don the teal and white, who would you choose?

Scoring talent is vital, but chemistry and hard working players are just as important.

The All-Mean Team: The NHL's Top Tough Guys of the Modern Era

Posted 02/20/2010 - 20:28 by HockeyPolls

Okay, so the best on best hockey tournament that is the 2010 Winter Olympics has finally arrived and everybody is caught up in the hoopla.

But after watching the first few preliminary games I have come to the conclusion that I miss the hard-nosed play of the NHL.

Aside from the Sharks line of Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau and Dany Heatley, the only player that was really entertaining to watch against the Swiss was Brendan Morrow.

The Top 15 Dark Jerseys in the NHL's Eastern Conference

A few weeks ago I critiqued and ranked the NHL's Western Conference white jerseys.

Flickering Picks: A Look at the Calgary Flames Worst First-Round Choices

Posted 02/16/2010 - 23:26 by HockeyPolls

Often times, a team's success can depend on how well they have drafted over the years. We have to look no further than over the last two and a half seasons and see teams like the Detroit Red Wings, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Washington Capitals dominate to prove this exact point.

While the Wings did it by finding late-round gems like Tomas Holmstrom at 247th overall in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, Pavel Datsyuk at 171st overall in 1998, and Henrik Zetterberg at 210th overall in 1999, teams like Pittsburgh and Washington stockpiled first-rounders after years of shoddy finishes.

My Two Cents: A Controversial Ranking of NHL Jerseys

Posted 01/09/2010 - 08:44 by HockeyPolls

This article could get ugly.

Not literally, but I really don't expect any compliments, at least, coming in that comments section down below.

NHL Jersey Rankings have surprisingly been on the rise recently in terms of input, but I don't think there's been one like this.

But, no, I'm not just doing it to stir up some talk. I really do think that "slug" in Buffalo deserves to be among the top, maybe even the best...you'll just have to read and see.

These rankings were determined by a combination of both home and away rankings, both of which are entirely my opinion only.

10 Women That Make Hockey Even More Interesting

Posted 01/05/2010 - 13:05 by HockeyPolls

A glimpse into the Tiger Wood's fiasco shows just how much woman can come into the lives of professional athletes. As long as there are beautiful women we can expect them to be both seen and heard from. NHL players have so far been lucky enough to stay out of the main stream media's eye site. But It is impossible to project how long the NHL will keep their wholesome ahh shucks image.
