Daniel Carcillo's Season Is Over—What Did He Bring to the Chicago Blackhawks?

Daniel Carcillo's ride with the Chicago Blackhawks came to a tumultuous conclusion Friday with the news that the infamous forward will be undergoing knee surgery to correct a torn ACL suffered in a January 2nd game with Edmonton.

With training camp around the corner following a pretty relaxing offseason, many have to imagine how the Chicago Blackhawks intend on utilizing Daniel Carcillo.  It obviously has been made clear that he will fill the role of the 'Hawks "goon," but is that it?

Carcillo is a minimal offensive threat and that is an easy assessment.

Philadelphia Flyers: Dan Carcillo's 10 Most Memorable Moments

During the 2008-2009 NHL season, the Philadelphia Flyers traded Scottie Upshall to the Phoenix Coyotes for then-NHL penalty minutes leader, Dan Carcillo.

"Carbomb" became an instant fan favorite on Broad Street for his aggressive, explosive playing style.

Philadelphia Flyers: 10 Keys to Keeping the Top Seed in the East

The Philadelphia Flyers are currently sitting in first place in the Eastern Conference. Through 62 games, the Flyers have a 40-16-6 record.

As most fans will tell you, it's not always easy being on top. Every other team in the east is now gunning for you. Every game is challenging because teams throw everything at you and want to knock you off.

With that said, I would like to take a look at 10 keys to staying on top in the east.

As the 2010-2011 NHL season begins, the Flyers’ faithful are gearing up for another Stanley Cup run.

Sean Avery and the Best Trash Talkers in the NHL

It is an art and it is a skill.

Nobody can learn to trash-talk, or practice trash-talking. It is something that people are just naturally good at, some more than others.

Some players have mastered the art of trash-talking and agitating in general. Sean Avery is known all around the National Hockey League as one of the best in the NHL, but sometimes, like most agitators or "goons," he crosses the line.

Arron Asham has signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Flyers' in-state rival, the Pittsburgh Penguins. The free-agent deal is worth $700,000.

Earlier in the offseason, Flyers GM Paul Holmgren inked Daniel Carcillo to a one-year deal worth $1.075 million. Holmgren also spent $3.3 million on noted fighter Jody Shelley. Shelley's deal is for three years.

Arron Asham was a player that the Flyers used during their entire Stanley Cup run, playing in 23 games and totaling seven points.

Philadelphia Flyers: Dan Carcillo's Break-Out Year?

I suppose I like Phoenix Coyotes right winger Scottie Upshall just fine.

It's his fans I can't stand.

From the moment Dan Carcillo became property of the Philadelphia Flyers, I have not been able to read an online mention about the player they call "Carbomb" without some Upshall fan counter-insurgency taking place in the comments section of the story.

As you've no doubt heard, Carcillo recently signed a one-year $1.075 million contract with the Flyers.

NHL Free Agents 2010: Daniel Carcillo Signs With Philadelphia Flyers

On Tuesday afternoon the Philadelphia Flyers made yet another offseason move by signing Daniel Carcillo to a new one-year deal.

Carcillo has played a huge part in the Philadelphia Flyers' success over the last two seasons, and the front office thought highly enough of him to bring him back in for one more tour of duty.

Over the course of last season, Carcillo led the Flyers as the physical enforcer. Carcillo led the team in hits with 194 and piled up 207 penalty minutes in the process. He also showed a fair amount of puck skill, tallying 22 points (12G, 10A).
