A short while ago, the Phoenix Coyotes and Columbus Blue Jackets made a surprising trade. The Coyotes were not expected to make moves today, since they have been sitting well in the conference.

Unfortunately, Phoenix's best defenseman, Ed Jovanovski, recently went down with an injury. Phoenix wanted to boost defense in place of Jovanovski.

Here are the pros and cons of this trade.

The New York Rangers acquired 13-year veteran center Todd White from the Atlanta Thrashers in a trade for Donald Brashear and Patrick Rissmiller.

Todd White is a 35-year-old center, and this will be his last year of his four-year contract, worth $2.6 million.

He is a two-way player that will help on the power play and penalty killing units. His numbers have ranged from 13 goals and 31 assists for 44 point to 22 goals and 51 assists for 73 point which he tallied two years ago.

On July 27, 2010 the New York Rangers filled their roster and their cap by signing left winger Alexander Frolov. 

At present time the Rangers, are in the rears, meaning they are in the negative by $-796,667 with a cap pay roll of $60,196,667. 

In just seven weeks, 30 NHL GMs and their staffs will hit the draft floor at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. When the Rangers have their turn, it is set to be their highest pick since 2004, when they used the No. 6 overall pick on goalie, and now Phoenix Coyotes property, Al Montoya. In 2001, they also used the No. 10 overall pick on another goalie, the injury riddled, and currently out of pro hockey, Dan Blackburn.
