Posted 11/25/2011 - 13:59 by HockeyPolls

It must have been an awkward conversation when New York Islanders GM Garth Snow notified Islanders forward Blake Comeau that he was being waived on the national holiday.

Happy Thanksgiving; you have been placed on waivers?

Comeau was released by the Islanders Thursday morning. The young winger has not had a lot to be thankful for this season. In 15 games, Comeau had not registered a single point and had a minus-11 rating.

NHL Trade Deadline: What Should New York Islanders' GM Garth Snow Do?

With just six days left until the most climactic day of the regular season, surely New York Islanders GM Garth Snow has a lot on his mind.

He has many decisions to make, regarding who should stay and who can be dealt away, which "bubble players" deserve a second chance, and which ones to give up on. He also needs to determine whether there are any valuable players and draft picks to be had or moved, and at what type of cost.

The Islanders beat the Penguins 9-3.

For many years, the most excitement surrounding the New York Islanders came at the end of the season.

In the 1980’s, that meant Stanley Cup Championships.

However, for the modern-day Islanders, the end-of-the-season excitement has been about adding yet another high draft pick to the mix of young talent already on the roster.

Islanders Young Core Will Eventually Lead Them To Be Contenders

If you're an Islanders fan, you would know about General Manager Garth Snow's youth rebuilding plan.  After not panning out just yet, I finally think all his hard work and waiting is about to pay off, this season or the next.  The Islanders were able to make this possible after enduring year after year of finishing near the bottom of the Eastern Conference.

Garth's Goal: What It Will Take for New York Islanders To Make Playoffs

It's finally over.  Blake Comeau scored two first-period goals as the Islanders broke a 15-game winless streak against the Flyers with a 6-4 win on Coliseum ice.
The Isles grabbed control of the game in the first eight minutes, as Comeau scored the first two goals.  It was his second-consecutive two-goal game and his fourth multi-goal game of the season.
Frans Nielsen scored 28 seconds after Comeau's second tally to give the Isles a 3-0 lead just 7:45 into play.  The Isles dominated play throughout most of the session: The Flyers did not ha

Trent Hunter and John Tavares scored goals 90 seconds apart in the second period, and the Islanders made it hold up in the third for a 3-1 victory over Toronto.  On to the trick:
1.  Following a scoreless first period, the Isles took command in the second period as Hunter tallied for the second straight game, just three seconds after an Islander power play expired.  It was the second goal in as many games for Hunter.  Tavares then scored off a beautiful pass form Blake Comeau.  It was his first goal since scoring five consecutive Islander goals between December 3 and December 9
