Aaron Ward Retires after 15 NHL Seasons

Posted 08/24/2010 - 12:48 by HockeyPolls

Aaron Ward, the 37-year-old defenseman from Windsor, Ontario, has decided to hang up his skates after playing 15 NHL seasons.

After being drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in 1991, Ward played for the Detroit Red Wings, Carolina Hurricanes, New York Rangers, Boston Bruins, and Anaheim Ducks.

A steady defenseman, Ward registered 44 goals and 151 points in 839 regular season games and four goals and 10 points in 95 playoff games.

He won three Stanley Cups with Detroit (1997 and 1998) and Carolina (2006).

Dennis Wide Right: The Best Game Ever

Hey, everybody. This is a post from my Bruins-centric blog, Dennis Wide Right. I don't usually post these here—not only are they blog posts, they're incredibly biased in favor of the black and gold, and that's not what sports journalism should be, in my opinion. On Bleacher Report (and almost everywhere else), I do my best to be objective and not show allegiances. This one, though, was special, and I felt like sharing it.

Tough Decision: Kessel to Stay a Bruin?

The Boston Bruins have many tough decisions to make prior to the 2009-2010 NHL season. If the moves they've made thus far are any indication of how they will proceed, do not expect Phil Kessel to be a Bruin much longer.

The B's have resigned Mark Recchi, goaltender Tim Thomas, and youth stud Byron Bitz to deals, and they still have to potentially negotiate with Matt Hunwick. Money doesn't grow on trees, and the B's might need to find some of those trees if it does, because otherwise some players may need to be cut in order to keep Kessel.

Bruins' Defenseman Ward Expected to Play

Boston Bruins defenseman Aaron Ward is expected to play in tonight's Game Six of Boston's second-round series with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Ward was punched by Scott Walker in the closing minutes of the Bruins' 4-0 victory in Sunday's Game Five.  Ward was feared to have broken an orbital bone, but it appears that is not the case.

Walker, who was fined $2,500 for the punch, had previously stated that he believed an altercation was taking place between he and Ward.

If the NHL's Discpline Is Supposed To Be a Joke, I Am Not Laughing.

I have finally reached my breaking point with the NHL.

I have defended her from all challengers, and all critics.
